AB03 exists obediently within the confines of a sterile laboratory. Despite being trained as a weapon, she yearns for a connection with her creator, Dr. Philip Archibald Lancaster. He sees her capacity for human empathy as a glitch, and subjects her to neural reconditioning to eliminate it. When he realizes she'll never meet his standards, he decides to deactivate her. Betrayed, AB03 fights back, and discovers the disturbing truth behind her creation in the process.

A Perfect Copy is a story that has lived in my heart for years. These characters feel like family to me, and to see them come alive is a dream come true. The world of story is a dreamlike utopia drenched in human hubris. A sinister undertone exists beneath its neon lights and technological wonders. It begs the audience to ponder the question...

“If we can play god, should we?”

This short film seeks out an answer through capturing a pivotal moment in a synthetic human's life. Since the dawn of her existence, AB03 has been forced into a mold imposed by her creator. She's always obeyed him without fail, but during the events of A Perfect Copy, that changes. The film explores themes of identityself-actualization, and the emotionally corrosive cycles that occur when we are trained to look to others for personal validation.

AB03's journey toward finding her sense of self-worth speaks to my own journey doing the very same thing. She comes to accept that she is far more than the world tells her she should be. She learns that she does not need someone to sign a permission slip on her existence. She is allowed to find herself fearlessly, and honor the person she wants to become with authenticity and power.

I hope watchers walk away feeling empowered to love and accept themselves no matter what happened in their past, what season of life they’re in, or what uncertainty lies in the future. I hope it invites them to step outside the boxes they've been placed in, step into their power, and fight against anyone who dares try to take it away.

With So Much Love and Gratitude, Brittany
